I feel like the conservative resistance to and furor over Obamacare might have been unintentionally explained in a recent Gallup poll. Yes, the rate of uninsured Americans dropped to a new all-time low of 13.4% in April, compared with 15.6% in the first quarter of 2014 and 17.1% in the fourth quarter of 2013. Even if you’re a Republican I think we can agree that’s good news. I’m just kidding. They’d never agree that’s a good thing.
But keep looking. Among blacks, the rate of uninsured dropped all the way from 20.9% to 13.8%. In fact, the biggest drops were among blacks, Hispanics, and lower-income Americans. Otherwise known as Democrats.
Yes, we passed a law in this country, and for once it really benefitted America’s minorities and its poor. When is the last time that happened? Hell, how did that happen?
