For a party that prides itself on its racial and cultural diversity, why do the Democrats allow the first two most important presidential contests to be held in Iowa and New Hampshire? They’re two of the whitest states we have. I can understand why the Republicans would want to start off in Iowa and New Hampshire — rural Caucasians are their white bread and butter. But why don’t Democrats start off in states that are more representative of their party, like Texas, or California?
I guess I’m kind of surprised that the party that wants to check white privilege also allows white people this privilege. What’s the reason to do it this way, other than “because we always have”?
