When a Law Isn’t a Law

There used to be a Federal law against importing “lion trophies” – lions murdered by dickless wonders who should kill themselves. Shooting and beheading cats is an act so obviously depraved even Donald Trump once tweeted that he’d “be very hard pressed to change (his) mind that this horror show in any way helps conservation.”

Well, that was then. The US Fish and Wildlife Service now allows trophy imports on a “case by case” basis. They’ve approved 38 between 2016-2018, according to a FOIA request by Friends of Animals. Many, by weird coincidence, for Republican donors. Because that’s how it works in a monarchy. “Case by case” is the same as no law at all.

Oh, and the African lion population has declined by 43% in the last 21 years. There are only 23,000 left. Get ‘em while they’re cold.
