The Defense Department investigation into the deaths of four soldiers in Niger in October has found that “individual, organizational, and institutional” mistakes contributed to the tragedy, but “no single failure of deficiency” led to their deaths. This was a surprise attack by the Islamic State, we were caught off guard without adequate protection for our soldiers. This is not a Trump scandal, nor has anyone attempted to make it one.
On the other hand, there were eight investigations into Benghazi, even though they all found pretty much the same thing: this was a surprise attack by the Islamic militants, we were caught off guard without adequate protection for our embassy, but there was no single failure or mistake that led to their deaths.
Even still, Benghazi was an enormous "scandal" for Republicans, who blamed Obama and Hillary not only for the deaths of four Americans, but for supposedly issuing stand down orders that prevented our people from receiving timely assistance, even though that never happened.
What does this say about the mental health of the two political parties?
