Elections have consequences and it’s looking very much like one of the consequences of the 2016 election – besides the United States of America falling under Russian control – will be that American women will lose their federally protected right to abortion. It’s an almost-inevitable decision that will likely take decades to overturn, if ever. But, as the LA Times recently illustrated, many women, especially poor women, have already effectively lost their abortion rights in wide swaths of the country due to restrictions on where and how clinics can operate.
I get it. Conservatives believe legalized abortion is akin to state-sponsored genocide, so they fight tooth and nail, throwing up every roadblock they can between a knocked up teen and an abortion provider. But liberals believe the same thing about gun violence – that it’s to the point of state-sponsored genocide. Why are liberals so much less effective at saving “innocent lives” than conservatives?
