The problem with Bernie Sanders is he’s just too conservative. He wants single payer healthcare, which is fine as a start – but single payer only controls costs, it doesn’t do anything to control Big Pharm.
Case in point: a new analysis published in the British Medical Journal finds that pharmaceutical companies have been routinely hiding the risks of antidepressants, especially their link to suicide. For example, in one trial, suicide attempts were passed off as “emotional lability,” whatever the hell that means.
But then, as anyone who follows the issue knows, drug trials have become increasingly dubious, leading Marcia Angell, the former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine to conclude, “It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published.” And she said that in 2009; it’s only gotten worse since then.
The only way to fix this is to take the profit out of making pills.
