Continuing our series on "The Other Takers," today we have Allen West. Who was briefly a Congressman and rising Republican star, but was voted out in 2012 because he kept saying crazy stuff like "there's about 78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party that are members of the Communist Party." Turned out that was not only too crazy for voters, it was too crazy for voters in Florida.
Well, if you spent any time on conservative websites in the last month or so, you may have noticed banner ads encouraging an army of angry Obama haters to "Help Allen West fight back against Obama's Liberal Agenda."
And how do you do that? By giving money to Allen West.
Now that I’m not constrained by my duties of as a Congressman, I can focus my efforts on revealing the truth about Barack Obama’s dangerous plan for America and the left’s progressive social experiments. I’m thrilled to announce the Allen West Guardian Fund which will help to elect 12 new Constitutional conservatives and defend our Constitution. But I’m counting on you to help us raise $5 million over the next 24 months. Please follow this link to contribute $25, $50, $100 or more today.
Translation: Now that I don't have a job, or a salary, can you help provide one for me? Because we have to fight the takers!
Yes, it's Allen West's very own political action committee. You give money to him, he takes out the overhead and the personal expenses, and then donates some of what you donated to the campaigns of the people he likes. Of course, you could just donate the money straight to the candidates you like -- as in, on your own -- but what's in that for Allen West?
Now, I'm hardly accusing Allen West of coming up with this idea all by himself. He's not that bright. And I'm not even saying this is a purely Republican con. Lots of ex-politicians maintain their lifestyles through the PAC game. And some even believe in what they're doing.
All I'm saying is that it's not a job, and it's not hard work. Because if it were, Sarah Palin wouldn't do it.
